What is Wire Mesh? Wire Mesh Overview: Basics of Wire Mesh

Wire mesh, also named wire cloth or wire fabric, is an extremely versatile product that has thousands of different applications.Depending upon manufacturing capabilities, there are almost endless combinations of opening sizes and diameter wires that can be produced, either in a woven or welded construction.

Wire mesh materials available

Web Wire Mesh manufactures a wide range of wire mesh materials, including stainless steel wire mesh, copper wire mesh, brass wire mesh, phosphor bronze wire mesh, aluminum wire mesh, nickel wire mesh, monel wire mesh etc.

Stainless steel wire mesh is a form of woven mesh produced on loom, stainless steel wires are woven together to create wire mesh in different patterns, such as plain weave, twilled weave and dutch weave. It is commonly manufactured in 300 series alloys. Type 304 is most popular, but also available in types 304L, 316, 321 . Series 400 alloys are also available on special order.

Copper wire mesh is produced in plain weave, it is a kind of soft, malleable and ductile metal mesh, and has high thermal and electrical conductivity. The common grade is C11000,C10200 and C10100

Brass wire mesh is also called brass wire cloth and brass wire fabric. Brass is an non-ferrous metal alloy made of copper and zinc, the zinc can increases abrasion resistance and allows for higher tensile strength. The common grade is C28000 (CuZn37),C27000 (CuZn35) and C26000 (CuZn30)

Phosphor bronze mesh is made of copper, zinc, tin and phosphorous, the tin provides the corrosion resistance and strength, and phosphorus can increase the wear resistance. The common grade is C51000 (CuSn4),C51900 (CuSn6) and C52100 (CuSn6)

Aluminum wire mesh, also known as bright aluminum wire screen, the screen is produced on looms as mesh rolls, it is a kind of square weave wire mesh. Aluminum woven wire mesh is lightweight;when compared to its stainless steel, aluminum mesh is approximately 1/3rd the weight of stainless. The common grade is 1100 and 5056

Nickel wire mesh is produced in plain weave. Wires made from nickel and nickel alloys are not only used for their corrosion and temperature resistance properties, but also for specific electrical resistance values. The common pure nickel is N2, N4 and N6. The nickel alloy is monel 400 and Cr20Ni80.

Wire mesh is commonly used in the following applications

In the water & wastewater treatment, for water intake, municipal wastewater plant

In the petrochemical & chemical industries, for test sieve and structured packing, resin traps, nozzles, potash industry, sulphur plant coalescers, distillation column, turbines and heat exchangers.

In the food industries, for barbecue grills, grain drying, flooring for malt kiln, corn wet milling, starch processing, salt industry, sugar mill, beverage filtration, vegetable oil filtration, coffee & tea filters

In the mining & aggregate industries, for vibrating screen decking, coal mining

In the EMI & RFI shielding industries, for shielded room, enclosure box, faraday cage and laboratory shielded testing.

In the oil & gas industries, for the raw material of filter element, drilling mud, oil & gas well, sand control

In battery industries, as an electrode substrates or current collectors part of fuel cells.

In the filtration and separation industries, for manufacturing filter discs, drum filters, leaf filters and cartridge filters.

In the architectural & decorative industries, for the screen of window, door, fireplace and ceiling, facade, drainage grilles etc.

In the automobile industries, for airbags, anti vibration and mufflers & silencers, car grille

In the agricultural industries, for pig raising screens, manure separation
