Selecting the right tool is essential for maintaining the structural integrity of your mesh. Follow these recommendations based on wire thickness and weave density.
1. Heavy-Duty Mesh (Thicker Wire Gauges)
For high-tensile or thick-gauge industrial mesh, power and durability are key.
Primary Tool: Angle Grinder. This is the most efficient tool for handling the strength and diameter of heavy-duty wire. It provides a quick, clean break through hardened steel.
Alternative: Snips. For specific heavy-duty sizes where precision is required, high-quality snips offer excellent control for detailed cuts.
2. Coarse Mesh
Coarse mesh requires a balance between force and flexibility.
Recommended Tool: Heavy-Duty Utility Shears. While standard industrial scissors can work, we recommend utility shears or aviation snips to ensure a clean edge without straining the tool or the material. These provide the necessary leverage for consistent accuracy.
3. Fine and Super-Fine Mesh
Fine wire mesh behaves similarly to industrial textiles and requires a delicate touch to prevent fraying or deforming the weave.
Recommended Method: Precision Manual Shears. Treat these meshes like high-end fabric. Use sharp, fine-tipped craft shears or professional fabric scissors to glide through the mesh. This ensures a burr-free finish and protects the delicate wire structure.
